The story of Green Manas began in 2001, when a small group of passionate nature enthusiasts from Baksa District, Assam, came together with a shared dream — to protect the rich natural heritage of Northeast India. Deeply concerned about the rapid loss of forest cover, wildlife, and the challenges faced by local communities, they established Green Manas, a community-based organization dedicated to nature conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development.
Since its inception, the NGO has worked tirelessly through various projects involving students, teachers, youth, women, and community leaders, spreading awareness and building capacity for conservation at the grassroots level. Over the years, Green Manas has successfully promoted eco-tourism, livelihood programs, environmental education, and cultural preservation, ensuring that both people and nature thrive in harmony.
Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with Registration No. RS/BAR/237/D/77 of 2001–2002, Green Manas is recognized by the Government of Assam and the Government of India through multiple certifications. It holds a NITI Aayog Unique ID (AS/2019/0232237), Income Tax Act 1961 registrations under Section 12A & 80G (Registration No. AAFAG5405KF20231 & AAFAG5405KE20231), and CSR Registration No. CSR00059170 under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, along with MSME Registration No. UDYAM-AS-02-0015502.
Driven by a mission to conserve biodiversity, empower rural communities, and foster sustainable growth, Green Manas continues to bridge the gap between people and nature — creating a lasting impact across the landscapes of Northeast India.
